Winter Reading Challenge Community members are invited to visit any Nevada County library branch to register for the challenge, which runs from Dec. 1, 2025, through Jan. 31, 2026. Participants will receive a free book at signup, courtesy of the Friends of the Nevada County Libraries, and can complete a bingo card of activities to earn a special prize. Home for the Holidays is Dec. 5-6, 12-13, and 19-23 with the ballpark being open from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. PT each night. Christmas is coming early to Greater Nevada Field! Join us for Home for the Holidays, a nine-night immersive holiday experience taking place all throughout the ballpark! Take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, enjoy unique tree lightings, and browse the vendor village all throughout December in Downtown Reno! Holidays at Empire Mine On Saturday, December 6th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., enjoy festive music, chestnut roasting, candle dipping and tin punching, historic children's games, mine yard demonstrations and more on the beautifully decorated historic grounds of Empire Mine State Historic Park! Tell Santa what's on your wish list in the warmly decorated Clubhouse, and enjoy a Cornish Pasty with Christmas cookies and hot drinks for dessert. Doors open at 10 a.m.; event begins at 11 a.m. Entry is $5 per person; age 5 and under are free. Fourth Graders and their families get in free with the California State Parks Adventure Pass (visit www.parks.ca.gov/AdventurePass for info).
